Give me a fan, give me an ice cube, dammit just give me shade and I'll be happy! I'm exaggerating of course, but its bloody hot right now in Northern India. According to my temperature alarm clock it was 39 degrees C (About 102 degrees F) in the car in the shade with all the windows open yesterday. Not comfortable to travel in. And the sun is even worse because all of our pale skins are not evolutionarily adapted to dealing with such intense solar radiation. At least I'll have a tan to brag about when I get home, hee hee!
So about all the sites and things, we've been going to a lot of ruins and palaces. The amazing thing is, you get to the next new one and you think its going to be the same, but then inside they are so stunning and astoundingly different that it leaves you breathless. The amount of detail that has went into the rock carvings and wall paintings in some of these places is just mind boggling--they estimate that some rooms decked out in miniature paintings took 30 years to complete!! The Khujuraho temples were fantastic, one of my favourites of the trip--and not just because of the erotic kama sutra carvings which they're famous for. The outside and inside of the temples (which are dotted around quite a large area) are completely decorated with intricate stone carvings, and to add to that fact, no mortar at all was used in the construction of the structures.
In other news, I officially got ill. Luckily it wasn't severe. And ironically, it was after the ONE NIGHT of western food I'd had in some two months that it affected me. I had stomach cramps so bad that it hurt to move, and I didn't end up sleeping much that night. The next day, the thought of food just turned my stomach, and I ended up not eating anything until dinner. And dinner was just a few pieces of bread and plain rice. But now I'm fine and dandy and it's all good.
Soooooooooo I get back to London on Monday for Tom's birthday, yay! I'm exciting about returning to the West--I need some nice leafy salad and tap water. We're headed to the holy city of Varanasi tomorrow, which will be the last stop on my trip!
